EMIGRANT

HOME

From Mosquito Pass area looking toward Brown Bear Pass.

Along the old wagon route descending from Brown Bear Pass. More wildflowers. One side of the canyon was volcanic, while the other side was granite.

The trail above has eroded over 5 feet, mostly from horses. While this was the worst I had seen it reflects the damage that they do. There was so much manure along the trail that I often felt like I was hiking in a barnyard. During a one hour stretch hiking above Kennedy Meadows I counted 4 pack trains with about 20 horses and mules. The night before I saw about 40 teenagers headed up stream in two hours.
